Safer Tourism Foundation welcomes four new Trustees to our Board

We are pleased to announce the appointment of four new trustees to our Board, bringing wide-ranging expertise from the world’s of safety, marketing, legal, and travel sector operations to the charity.

Joining the Board in September 2025 are:

·       Charlie Newman, Global Safety Manager at Intrepid Travel

·       Gill Harvey, External Affairs Director at School Travel Forum

·       Jeremy Laight, Fractional CMO and founder of marketing services agency RocketJam

·       Claire Mulligan, Partner and Head of Travel at global law firm Kennedy’s

The new trustees bring fresh insight and deep sector knowledge to support our mission: to save lives and prevent serious harm to travellers, at home and abroad.

We are thrilled to welcome this exceptional group of trustees,” said Katherine Atkinson, CEO of the Safer Tourism Foundation. “Each brings a unique set of skills and experience, and we are excited to get an injection of new insight and strategic thinking on our Board as we continue to grow our reach and impact.

New Appointments: Profiles

Charlie Newman is Global Safety Manager at Intrepid Travel, one of the world’s largest purpose-led adventure travel companies. With responsibility for global safety protocols across Intrepid’s international operations, Charlie’s practical leadership in risk management and traveller wellbeing will be a valuable asset to the Foundation.

Gill Harvey brings decades of experience in the travel sector, having held senior roles across a range of tour operators. In her current position at the School Travel Forum, she oversees standards and health & safety compliance across member organisations. Gill also serves as a trustee for the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, which manages the national LOtC Quality Badge—endorsed by the Department for Education.

Jeremy Laight is a London-based Chief Marketing Officer and founder of RocketJam, a fractional marketing services agency and The Slice, a leading community for fractional marketers. With a career spanning major brands like Nationwide, NatWest, and Bupa, Jeremy has led marketing and transformation across global businesses. His passion for safety, trust, and communication in customer experience aligns closely with the Foundation’s aims.

Claire Mulligan is a nationally recognised expert in overseas injury claims and crisis management. As Partner and Head of Travel at global law firm Kennedy’s, Claire has advised on some of the most complex and sensitive cases affecting the travel industry. Her expertise in regulatory issues, litigation, and insurance will offer critical insights as the Foundation continues to work closely with stakeholders across the travel ecosystem.

The new trustees will join the charity’s current trustees – Chair Paul Carter, Janet Russell, Colin Parselle and Ed Deason – completing the board.

Thanking Departing Trustees

The charity also announces the upcoming departure of three long-serving trustees by the end of the year:

·       Ian Ailles, first independent Chair of the Board and trustee since 2017

·       Hans Lagerweij, who has served for 8 years, contributing valuable strategic and commercial insight

·       Anne Allis-Hill, a seasoned travel safety expert and operational leader, who has served as trustee for three years
