Safer Tourism Joins Forces with ABTOT

Safer Tourism is excited to announce a new partnership with ABTOT, the leading industry bonding and insurance organisation, that will put risk insights and practical safety knowledge into the hands of more operators across the sector.

Through a reciprocal arrangement, Safer Tourism joins the ABTOT ecosystem as an Associate Partner, and ABTOT becomes a recognised Safer Tourism Affiliate Partner.

ABTOT members will now have direct access to Safer Tourism’s industry-leading research and insights on traveller risk and safety incidents, presented in the Travel Behaviour Risk Index. The research offers a big-picture view of safety and risk in travel, combining in-depth analysis of Safer Tourism Pledge Partner data through aggregated and anonymised safety incident reports representative of over 10 million trips, and biannual research into traveller perceptions and behaviours relating to risk.

We are always looking for ways to deliver greater value to our members, and this partnership with the Safer Tourism Foundation does exactly that. The quality of Safer Tourism’s research and the breadth of their network mean our members will have access to insight that is genuinely useful and immediately applicable.
— Julie Jones, Business Development Director for ABTOT

Alongside this, Safer Tourism will share practical best practice guidance on a growing range of topics that matter to responsible operators: food allergy management across the supply chain, higher risk activity auditing, carbon monoxide and methanol poisoning awareness, women's travel safety, risk planning and adapting product to an ageing travel population, and the management of health risks in extreme heat. This will be delivered through webinars, dedicated member workshops and content shared through ABTOT's newsletters.

For Safer Tourism, the partnership opens an important new channel. Reaching more operators across the sector means the safety agenda gets the visibility and attention it deserves across the widest possible cross-section of the industry, and that can only be good news for travellers.

Over the last nearly ten years, Safer Tourism has been cultivating a community of organisations, operators and individuals committed to making travel safer for everyone, and working with ABTOT’s members extends this community of practice to a much wider range of travel businesses. Our new partnership is a fantastic opportunity to apply our research and insights, building on the diversity of practical operator experience to raise standards across the industry and minimise what can go wrong for travellers. We’re really looking forward to getting to know, and work with, ABTOT members to this end.
