Intrepid Travel signs up to Safer Tourism Pledge
We’re delighted to announce that Intrepid Travel, one of the world’s most recognised and respected adventure travel companies, has signed up to the Safer Tourism Pledge, the leading commitment to traveller risk, health and safety.
Operating more than 900 small-group trips to over 120 countries, Intrepid Travel has built a global reputation as a purpose-led operator that puts people, both its customers and the communities they visit, at the heart of every journey. As a B Corp-certified travel company since 2018, Intrepid is a leader in responsible travel. Joining the Safer Tourism Pledge programme adds traveller safety to the formal, independently validated commitments that define the company.
The Safer Tourism Pledge is a set of commitments, developed in partnership with the travel industry, articulating a stringent approach to traveller risk, health and safety. The Pledge was created as a means to review and recognise those businesses that not only have excellent safety systems and protocols in place but also put collaboration ahead of competition when it comes to customer safety. Safer Tourism assesses the safety management systems of companies wishing to sign up, and travel companies in turn agree to adhere to the Pledge’s six commitments.
Charlie Newman, Global Safety Manager, Intrepid Travel, said: “Intrepid has long prioritised responsible travel and safety is a major part of that commitment. We’re proud to sign up to the Safer Tourism Pledge, reinforcing our duty of care to our customers and our dedication to responsible and sustainable tourism. We look forward to working with Safer Tourism and other Pledge partners to continue learning, sharing good practice and building the interventions required to minimise risks for travellers.”
As a Safer Tourism Pledge partner, Intrepid Travel will join other leading travel companies in working collaboratively to identify potential travel risks and proactively prevent harm to travellers. Intrepid Travel will also share anonymised travel incident data with the Safer Tourism Foundation, contributing to Safer Tourism’s growing safety incident data, which the charity uses to understand the root causes of preventable harm; an evidence base which reflects more than ten million trips a year across the Pledge partner network.
Safer Tourism Foundation’s CEO, Katherine Atkinson said: “We're delighted to welcome Intrepid Travel as our latest Safer Tourism Pledge partner. Intrepid is one of the most recognised names in responsible travel, and its decision to sign the Safer Tourism Pledge sends a powerful signal to the industry. What struck us during the validation process was the penetration of Intrepid's safety thinking, right to the core of its network of DMCs and suppliers within destinations all over the world.
She continued: “Intrepid has also been active with Safer Tourism in illustrating the clear links between safety risks and climate change, an interaction that deserves more attention. We look forward to working even more closely with Intrepid as its global footprint and local expertise will make for invaluable contributions to good practice development across our Pledge partner community.”
